New Executive Director 


SARASOTA, FL — The William G. and Marie Selby Foundation

has selected Carol Butera, MSW,CFRE, as its new Executive

Director.  She will begin her duties in mid-July, 2017. 

In the last 22 years, Ms. Butera has demonstrated successful leadership in foundation, non-profit, philanthropy and educational organizations, most recently as Vice President of Children First.

“Our search enabled us to connect with some of the most outstanding talent in our area," said the Selby Foundation Administrative Committee Chair Karin Grablin. “Carol Butera possesses the perfect blend of experience, intelligence, compassion, drive and desire to collaborate.  The Administrative Committee is eager to broaden the vision of the Selbys’ legacy in our community through Carol’s leadership.”

Ms. Butera was thrilled to have been unanimously selected by the Administrative Committee to succeed Selby’s former leaders: most recently, Dr. Sarah Pappas, who will begin a non-profit consulting practice, and previously, Debra Jacobs, now President and CEO of the Patterson Foundation.

“It is an honor to represent the Selby Foundation and steward the remarkable legacy left by William G. and Marie Selby,” said Ms. Butera. “Their gift has had significant impact on the lives of thousands of young people, and the operations of hundreds of charitable organizations.    My hope, with the support of the Administrative Committee, is to continue the collaborative partnership of the Foundation in improving the lives of current and future generations.”

Since 1955, the William G. and Marie Selby Foundation has awarded more than $120 million in grants to assist nonprofits in carrying out their missions in Sarasota, Manatee, Charlotte, and DeSoto counties.  Selby Foundation has also provided college scholarships to help more than 5,000 undergraduate students achieve their educational aspirations.
